Speed Rings

Speed rings or splitters are often used in wide, laminar bladed fans to reduce blade bending stresses.

Centrix allows for the use of inner (blade heel), outer (blade tip) or full.

Full speed rings can reduce blade stresses significantly but increase the manufacturing cost and inertia of the impeller.

Centrix calculates the blade stress at the heel and tip and makes appropriate reductions for the use of speed rings. Factors are stored in the database to assist with obtaining a correct stress reduction factor.

The factors are usually obtained from finite element analysis (FEA) work.

Inner speed rings can either be flat (parallel with the back plate) or conical. Inner and full speed rings may affect fan performance marginally. The effect of Outer speed rings is usually negligible.
